Chef Z answers your FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS....

Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PRIVATE CHEF and a PERSONAL CHEF?
A: A Private Chef works for one family and is responsible for feeding that family every day. A Private Chef can also work on a free-lance basis and have many clients that they provide cheffing services to on a per-event basis, such as dinner parties, brunches served in their homes, or birthday parties for family gatherings.
A Personal Chef has a set group of families that they prepare food for, usually in their respective homes, and typically done on a weekly basis. A Personal Chef cooks and then leaves the prepared food packaged in their refrigerator with reheating instructions. Personal Chefs cook according to the specific likes and dislikes, and diet restrictions of their clientele.

Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PRIVATE CHEF and a CATERER?
A: Caterer's typically serve large numbers of guests at events such as large weddings, graduations, retirements, and professional events, while Private Chef's will typically serve smaller numbers in more intimate venues, such as personal and professional events held at the client's private residence or place of business.

Q: IS IT AFFORDABLE TO HIRE A PERSONAL CHEF, AND IF SO WHY?
 A: Absolutely! If you consider the time you spend driving to the store, plus shopping, preparing, cooking, and cleaning up, or driving and waiting to be served at a restaurant..you will save yourself about 10 - 12 hours per week on average. Add to that the high cost of traveling (have you noticed the price of gas?!) and tippiing and if you add all those costs up, a Personal Chef is much more affordable than you might think! Plus, the safety and health issues revolving around eating out, except on special occasions of course, and you are farther ahead to have meals prepared for you to your exact health and palate specifications.
Utilizing a Personal Chef also eliminates wasted food that hangs around in your refrigerator until it's spoiled.
Lastly, portion control is taken care of by the Personal Chef, assisting those keeping track of calories or wishing to drop a few pounds.

Q: DO YOU TEACH CLASSES TO CHILDREN?
 A: Yes, you bet! Chef Z LOVES to teach teens aged 8 and over! Kids need a good role model regarding cooking and health and Chef Z is the perfect person to do that. They will learn good cooking techniques in a fun and informational atmosphere, fostering the desire to cook at home and instilling a desire that will pay off well into adulthood. Q: HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR PRIVATE CHEF SERVICES?
A: There are several steps involved to determine pricing for an event:
1. Chef Z conducts a phone interview with the client to assess the needs, dreams and desires of the client's intended event;
2. Menu choices are then created by Chef Z, with input from the client...or not. It's no problem for Chef Z to suggest a complete menu if you wish!
3. Pricing is then determined, contingent on the menu choices and the party labor required at the event;
4. Party labor charges are determined by the length of time the server(s), bartender(s), sommelier(s) and chef(s) are needed to provide full setup, fulfillment of the event, and cleanup.

Q: WHAT ARE "PARTY LABOR" RATES?
A: Party labor rates are the hourly rates charged for chefs , servers/kitchen assistants, and/or bartenders/sommeliers while at the event to provide setup, fullfillment, and cleanup. Please inquire about rates regarding your specific event.

Q: WHAT ABOUT GRATUITIES?
A: Gratuities are charged for all events when a Private Chef is present during the event. A minimum of 20% is charged. Ultimately, any greater percentages are left up to the discretion of the client. It's much the same as tipping at a restaurant. Gratuities are frequently offered to the Personal Chef by the client, but are not automatically charged.
